2.) Men Die From Lack Of Knowledge And Mistakes!

MEN DIE FROM LACK OF KNOWLEDGE



But if they foolishly refuse, they will be rewarded with a violent death. 


But if they do not obey, they will cross the river of death and die without knowledge. 


But if they refuse to listen, they pass over the river of death, and expire without knowledge. 


But if they obey not, they shall perish by the sword, and they shall die without knowledge.

SOME OF YOU MAY RECOGNIZE THOSE SENTENCES AS SCRIPTURE FROM DIFFERENT TYPES OF BIBLES. THE BASIC POINT IS THE SAME THROUGHOUT. THAT IS, IF A PERSON DOESN'T KNOW SOMETHING, IT COULD LEAD TO THEIR DEATH. CADS PROGRAM MANAGER HAS TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF HUNDREDS WHO DIDN'T KNOW AND/OR WAS INTENTIONALLY NOT INFORMED OF SOME BASIC FACTS ABOUT THEIR TREATMENT AND THUS, WERE TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF.

THINK ABOUT IT, IS IT NOT STRANGE THAT ALTHOUGH LEAH HAS BEEN THE MANAGER AT CADS ON 11TH ST FOR SEVERAL YEARS, PROCESSING HUNDREDS OF CLIENTS, YET NO COMPLAINTS OR GRIEVANCES HAVE MOVED BEYOND HER DESK?  I KNOW SOME OF THE CLIENTS WHO HAD LEGITIMATE COMPLAINTS, YET WERE FORCED OUT AND LATER DIED WITHIN 3 YEARS. ONE DIED WITHIN 3 MONTHS OF THEIR DEPARTURE. YET, ANOTHER DID NOT MAKE IT ONE FULL MONTH

 DID IGNORANCE KILL THEM OR DID LEAH TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THEM BY NOT ADHERING TO ALL THE RULES AND REGULATIONS? I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT CADS' OWN RULES AND GUIDELINES HAVE BEEN BROKEN OR IGNORED BY THIS PROGRAM DIRECTOR? AT A MINIMUM, IN MY CASE I KNOW SHE HAS VIOLATED SEVERAL RULES . LET'S START WITH THE BASIC "CLIENTS RIGHTS; CADS' DIRECTIVE NUMBER 4040.

ITEM #8. STATES: THE CLIENT HAS THE RIGHT TO HAVE ACCESS TO INFORMATION PERTAINING TO YOUR TREATMENT IN SUFFICIENT TIME TO FACILITATE YOUR DECISION MAKING. 

ON FEBRUARY 28TH 2019, I WAS GIVEN A "MEMO" ADVISING ME THAT I WAS IMMEDIATELY BEING PUT ON ADMINISTRATIVE WITHDRAWAL  (INVOLUNTARY TAPER) . I RECEIVED NO PRIOR NOTICE. I DID NOT HAVE REPEATED CONSULTATIONS WITH MY COUNSELOR ON THE ALLEGATIONS. THE CLINIC'S DOCTOR WAS NOT IN REGULAR ATTENDANCE AT THE CENTER. IT WAS SAID HE WAS ILL. MOST ISSUES THAT NEEDED THE DOCTOR'S CARE WERE SUSPENDED. HE WASN'T THERE SO THE CLINIC HAD TO SHUT DOWN SOME OF THEIR NORMAL BUSINESS. SO IT SEEMS UNLIKELY THAT HE WAS AS INVOLVED IN THE PROCESS OF MY ADMINISTRATIVE WITHDRAWAL AS REQUIRED IN THE OUTLINED IN PATIENTS RIGHTS AND THE GUIDELINES ON THE ISSUANCE OF ADMINISTRATIVE WITHDRAWALS.

ON ONE DOCUMENT ALONE; "CLIENTS RIGHTS", I CAN SAFELY SAY LEAH HAS VIOLATED AT LEAST 8 ITEMS. THAT'S ONLY THE BEGINNING. IN THE FOLLOWING PAGES I WILL SHOW THAT I CAN SAFELY SAY LEAH HAS WILLFULLY VIOLATED A MINIMUM OF 30 OF MY RIGHTS AND/OR GOVERNMENT RULES/REGULATIONS.

HER NEGLIGENCE AND OVER REACH OF POWER HAS COST ME MENTAL AND PHYSICAL PAIN AND NEARLY COST ME MY LIFE. NOT TO MENTION THE DAILY STRESS AND ANXIETY I AM PRESENTLY EXPERIENCE BECAUSE OF HER SYSTEMATIC ABUSE OF POWER. IT IS MY WISH THAT I FULLY RECOVER FROM HER ONSLAUGHT OF UNJUSTIFIED DECISIONS THAT CONTINUES TO  HAVE SERIOUS AFFECTS ON MY WELL-BEING.


ONE OF MANY ISSUES THAT HAVE OCCURRED OVER A 6 MONTH PERIOD STARTED ON MARCH 8TH 2019. I WAS CALLED AND INFORMED THAT I WAS SCHEDULED TO GIVE A URINE SAMPLE THAT MORNING. CADS GUIDELINES FOR PROVIDING URINE SPECIMENS STATES:

"LIFE DOES INTERFERE WITH THE BEST OF PLANS SOMETIMES. IF YOU NEED TO MAKE A ONE-TIME EXCEPTION TO THE GUIDELINES, PLEASE, DISCUSS THIS WITH YOUR COUNSELOR OR THE PROGRAM MANAGER. "


THAT SAME MORNING OF MARCH 8TH 2019, EARLY IN THE MORNING I CALLED MY COUNSELOR, WHO I HAD ONLY SEEN ONE TIME PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT, AND THE PROGRAM MANAGER, LEAH MORRIS, AT LEAST 4 TIMES EACH. I CALLED THE PROGRAM MANAGER'S LISTED OFFICE NUMBER AND LEFT MESSAGES AND CALLED HER AT THE CADS FAIRMOUNT LOCATION. I EVEN LEFT A MESSAGE FOR HER AT THAT LOCATION BECAUSE I WAS TOLD BY THE DESK CLERK THAT SHE WAS IN A MEETING  AND WAS DUE TO COME OUT SHORTLY. I TOLD THE CLERK WHAT I WAS REQUESTING AND ASKED HER TO PLEASE INCLUDE THAT INFORMATION (MY REQUEST) IN HER NOTE TO LEAH. I ALSO ASKED THE CLERK TO INCLUDE MY PHONE NUMBER AND REQUESTED THAT LEAH AND/OR MY COUNSELOR TO GIVE ME A RETURN CALL. NEITHER OF THEM RETURNED MY CALL THAT DAY OR THAT NIGHT. I WAS REQUESTING THAT I GIVE MY DROP THE NEXT DAY SINCE I HAD PRIOR ENGAGEMENTS/OBLIGATIONS THAT MORNING. I ALSO DROVE TO THE CENTER IN ROCK ISLAND TO SEE IF I COULD SPEAK WITH SOMEONE AND/OR GIVE A URINE SPECIMEN AT THAT TIME. I WAS TOLD  BY THE FRONT DESK CLERK THAT I COULD NOT GIVE A SPECIMEN PAST 9:45 AM. THAT'S THE TIME THE DOSING WINDOW CLOSES. 


CONSEQUENTLY I ASSUMED THAT MY COUNSELOR AND THE PROGRAM MANAGER SIMPLY BLEW ME OFF. BUT I HAD ONE MORE HOPE  THAT THEY MIGHT STILL CALL LATER THAT NIGHT. THERE IS ANOTHER CADS RULE THAT SAYS ALL CLIENTS WHO ARE REQUESTED TO GIVE A URINE SAMPLE ON SATURDAY MORNINGS WILL BE CALLED THE NIGHT BEFORE. AND, UPON RECEIVING THIS CALL THEY WILL BE REQUIRED TO BE AT THE CLINIC 1/2 HOUR BEFORE CLOSING. ON SATURDAYS THE CLINIC CLOSES AT 8:30 AM. EASY MATH SAYS THE CLIENT MUST THEREFORE BE AT THE CLINIC BEFORE 8 AM TO GIVE THEIR URINE DROP.                                             THIS NOTE IS POSTED ON THE EXTERIOR OF THE DOOR LEADING TO THE DOSING AREA WHERE URINE SAMPLES ARE ALSO GIVEN. Notice the line that addresses UAs. It says "if a client is called for a Saturday UA they will have to be in the door by 8AM!

  NEVERTHELESS, I DID NOT RECEIVE A CALL THAT NIGHT, FRIDAY MARCH 8TH, 2019, FROM EITHER OF THEM.


HOWEVER, THE NEXT MORNING WHEN I ARRIVED AT THE CLINIC I WAS GIVEN A MEMO BY THE MED CLERK WHO WAS MONITORING THE DOOR. I GENERALLY ARRIVE AT THE CLINIC A LITTLE BEFORE CLOSING TIME. HOWEVER, SINCE THE DOSING WINDOW CLOSES EARLIER ON SATURDAYS, 8:30AM, I HAD TO ADJUST MY ROUTINE TO ARRIVE ON TIME. ADDITIONALLY, I TAKE A HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE MEDICATION THAT FORCES ME TO URINATE MORE THAN NORMAL. AND WHEN ITS READY TO COME OUT IT'S THE BOSS. IT CREATES AN URGE THAT DEMANDS ATTENTION. SO THAT SATURDAY MORNING, THE 9TH OF MARCH, 2019 AROUND 8:AM I FELT AN URGE COMING ON. I WAS ABOUT ONE MILE FROM THE CENTER SO I DECIDED TO STOP AT A McDONALDS ON 31ST AVENUE AND 11TH ST IN ROCK ISLAND, TO USE THEIR RESTROOM. THE CENTER IS ON THE SAME STREET BUT ON 44TH AVENUE. BY THE TIME I TOOK CARE OF MY BUSINESS AND DROVE TO THE CLINIC, IT WAS GETTING NEAR CLOSING TIME. AFTER I ENTERED AND WAS GIVEN THE NOTE I READ IT. IT SAID "CAREY MUST GIVE A URINE SAMPLE BEFORE HE CAN DOSE THIS MORNING." IT ALSO SAID I COULD NOT EVEN RECEIVE MY SUNDAY TAKE HOME DOSE BEFORE I GAVE A SPECIMEN. OH MY GOODNESS. WHO DROPPED THIS BALL? WAS IT A SET-UP OR DID SOMEONE HAPHAZARDLY PUT THIS REQUEST INTO ACTION?

NATURALLY I HAD TO WAIT A LITTLE BEFORE I COULD OBTAIN ANOTHER URGE TO GO TO THE RESTROOM SINCE I JUST RELIEVED MYSELF 2 MINUTES EARLIER (I just pee-peed at McDonalds). AFTER THE COUNSELOR FINISHED WITH ALL THE CLIENTS, I EVENTUALLY GAVE HIM THE URINE SAMPLE BUT THE DOSING WINDOW HAD CLOSED, IT WAS ABOUT 8:35AM. OH MY GOODNESS, IF ONLY LEAH OR MY COUNSELOR WOULD SIMPLY ADHERED TO THEIR OWN GUIDELINES AND CALLED ME THE NIGHT BEFORE, I WOULD HAVE ARRIVED BEFORE 8AM TO GIVE MY SPECIMEN. HECK, I WOULD HAVE ARRIVED AT 6 IN THE MORNING TO DROP AND GET MY MEDICATION, I FOLLOW RULES. NEVERTHELESS, THE NOTE DID SAY I HAD TO GIVE A SPECIMEN "BEFORE" I COULD RECEIVE BOTH DOSES. THE COUNSELOR DID TAKE MY SPECIMEN BUT I STILL WAS DENIED BOTH DOSES! SOMETHING IS WRONG.

AS UNBELIEVABLE AND DISHEARTENING AS THAT CHAIN OF EVENT WAS (THE DENIAL OF MY 2 MEDICATIONS) THE CHAIN OF EVENTS THAT FOLLOWS (THE UPCOMING MONDAY MARCH 11TH, 2019) ARE THE DAYS I WILL NEVER FORGET FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE. I AM CALLING THAT MONDAY, THE DAY I WAS ALL BURNED UP.

BEFORE I LEFT THE CLINIC THAT MORNING MARCH 10TH 2019 , AFTER BEING DENIED 2 DOSES OF MY MEDICATION, THE NURSE, VIRGINA, WHO I HAVE KNOWN FOR AT LEAST 20 YEARS, CALLED ME OVER TO HER WINDOW AT THE NURSES STATION. SHE FILLS IN AT THE CLINIC WHEN NEEDED, INCLUDING SATURDAYS. SHE TOLD ME TO BEWARE THAT 'THEY" MAY DENY ME MY MEDICATION ON MONDAY MORNING MARCH 11TH. WHAT!? HOW COULD THAT BE!?

I WENT HOME AND IMMEDIATELY STARTED MAKING PHONE CALLS AND WRITING LETTERS TO THE PROGRAM MANAGER, LEAH MORRIS AND MY COUNSELOR.

 ON THAT MONDAY MARCH 11TH, I ALSO SENT LEAH A CERTIFIED LETTER TO MAKE SURE SHE KNEW EXACTLY WHAT WAS GOING ON AND THAT I WAS DOCUMENTING ALL OF MY TROUBLES.
                                                                     
I HAVE MY RECEIPT AND THE DATE IT WAS SENT, MARCH 11TH 2019

THAT DAY, MONDAY, MARCH 11TH, 2019, WAS THE BEGINNING OF THE MOST GRUELING WEEK OF MY LIFE... I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO DIE. I'M SURE YOU'VE HEARD OF THE SONG "STORMY MONDAY" WITH THE CLASSIC LYRICS "CALL IT STORMY MONDAY BUT TUESDAY IS JUST AS BAD." WELL, MY SITUATION WAS LIFE IMITATING ART AND I'LL CALL MY STORMY MONDAY "ALL BURNED UP MONDAY." AND, MY TUESDAY WAS NOT JUST AS BAD, IT WAS WORSE.

Remnants Of A Kangaroo Court

                                                                                 


Never in my years sitting on the bench have I seen this level of unprofessionalism , deceit and blatant disregard for rules as I've seen while working on this case. To make matters worse the gross misconduct is the results of an employee of a reputable organization.

Yesterday I received a document that represented the first correspondence from the program manager that addressed the specifics of the clients alleged misconduct. The client had never seen the specific nature of his alleged misconduct until it emerged in this progress note written by the manager on 03/22/2019. Approximately 2 months after he filed his grievance this document was sent to him by a counselor who had nothing to do with the grievance.

The manager never gave the client a written reply to his grievance as set forth in the center's grievance procedure. The begging question is why ? Why didn't the program manager give the client her rebuttal to his claims as outlined in the grievance procedure?  She instead neglected his repeated requests, preferring to hide her opinion in an obscure computer file under the name "Progress Note". The file was given to Carey by a counselor who was not involved in the grievance.

 Although the counselor was not directly associated with Carey's case, he was surely aware of it. Carey had consulted with him during a period in which he did not have an assigned counselor. As of the date of this letter the client still does not have a designated counselors.

During their times together Carey spoke of the difficulties he was having with the program manager in regard to her handling of his grievance. The counselor told him there wasn't much he could do since he was not his counselor. However, on 4/19/19 the client was surprisingly given the progress notes of his grievance meeting with the program manager.  As Carey read the document, a nefarious  motive behind  the manager's delays seem to become increasingly clear.  The begging question of  why the program manager did not give the client her written reply as outlined in the grievance procedure appears to have been answered. Carey believes the program manager was willing to fabricate a false and/or misleading record because of her belief  that the record would never be scrutinized by anyone outside her control.

Did Carey stumble across the tools of a kangaroo court?  A kangaroo court is an unofficial court held by a group of people in order to try someone regarded, especially without good evidence, as guilty of a crime or misdemeanor.  The "progress note" tells the fictional story of untruths. But her plan backfired when she wrote that she would call right then and the client could dose that day. That entry by the program manager is the proverbial nail in her coffin of lies, so to speak.  

     
Their meeting started at 11:30 am, so Carey had already taken his required dose at 8 am that day and the dosing window closes at 9:45 am. It's not plausible that he would be in a discussion about dosing that day. And, he certainly was not interested in leaving his recovery based friends and family. The program manager willfully misconstrued the events of that day in an attempt to frame the client as a disgruntled patient. For example  she  writes:      

 "Counselor told him that was not true and that if we make a referral to them they can get him in that day and dosed that day. Client did not respond to this" 
                                                                             
As you can see, the manager had a nefarious agenda on her mind when she wrote those fraudulent  words. On the surface the manager's progress notes appears innocent of any wrongdoings. However, a critical examination of it contents and subtle messaging exposes the underbelly of a purposeful misconstrued chain of events. A document of this nature works in a closed court. The client is not given the opportunity to argue in his own defense nor present supporting evidence of his innocence. Furthermore, in a kangaroo court the prosecutor is also the judge. In this case they're one in the same, the manager of the treatment center.  This client, Carey, has been stripped of his take-home privilege, causing unreasonable financial and personal burden for a alleged violation of a rule that does not exist. The program manager writes:

"Counselor asked him what he did with the left over dose if he did not take it all. Client stated that he would flushed it down the toilet. Counselor told him that he is supposed to bring the unused medication back to us to be destroyed"

Case in point, there is not a single rule or regulation that speaks to the manager's assessment of the disposal of medication. The clients have not received any such rule. Therefore it's unreasonable to believe that Carey knowingly violated a company policy when said policy does not exist. Yet, in a kangaroo court that truth is a moot point. It will never be presented as evidence of Carey's innocence. 

In the last half of the document the manager framed a fictitious account of her incurring Carey's wrath as she tried to advise him of an effective means of achieving his alleged goal of obtaining more methadone.  That's the false image the manager was attempting to sell.   
It's safe to say that if the manager's  "progress notes" had not been leaked to the client, that document alone would  serve as the primary and only source of information concerning the ongoing affairs of Carey's grievance and his interactions with the program manager. In such, we have exhibit "A" in the formation of a kangaroo court.

To an untrained eye the progress note may have been successful in promoting the images of a soft spoken manager who is innocent of all wrongdoing.  However, unfortunately for the client, the "progress note" also promotes the image of an unruly, loud and less than average thinking substance abuser whose only desire was to obtain more drugs. We now know that contrived, made-up image does not represent this young man, thus it exposes her sordid details. When we discovered the pattern of the manager's fictitious accounts of the meeting, we were compelled to uncovered more false and damaging portrayals of our client, Carey. 

Needless to say the progress note was intended to serve as a character assassination by painting the manager as the quintessential "good guy" and the client as the stereotypical "bad guy".  However, in the eyes of a skillfully trained investigator the progress note reads quite differently. Additionally, although our friend has not mentioned "race" as a point of contention, it should be noted that the manager does not share skin colors with our client. One is an African American, the other is what is commonly referred to as Caucasian or white-skinned.  


The begging questions are how did the manager maintain this hoax for so long? What was her motive and if there are others? How many other clients could she have harmed?  Until an investigation is initiated, only the manager knows for sure. She will most certainly plead innocence, at first, yet, the preponderance of truth leans heavily toward her guilt.

 "The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice." 

With that in mind, if I was her supervisor or if she worked in my organization, I would quietly request a meeting with her. I would not accuse her of anything at that time yet I would temporally suspend her with pay, while we secured her files. If their computer systems are equipped with time and date stamps on each file, when opened, her ability to change data is limited. If their system is not so equipped, her ability to make undetected changes must be scrutinized. I would advise her not to talk to any other employees about this case. If it's necessary I'd provide her with some of the material we are concerned with. It's always best to start an internal investigation before the feds arrive to do theirs. This case reeks of foul play that could have been avoided if only the manager would have admitted her error in judgement, instead of attempting to cover it up and/or justify and/or rationalize her mistakes. 

I felt strangely complicit in this case because I couldn't stop her, and families lives were in the balance. However I decided to do my fair share to bring this injustice to light by writing this piece and helping a fellow veteran. It's a trite phrase but fitting in this case: "The truth will set you free." 

We have received several calls on our helpline. Some were very specific in detailing with other abuses at this treatment center., CADS. Some only needed a place to vent their frustrations.We are compiling a list. We will forward it to the proper organizations.

Yet, the "progress note" would also promote the image of an unruly, loud and less than average thinking drug addict with tunnel vision, whose primary concern was to obtain more drugs.

Needless to say, the progress note was actually intended to serve as a character assassination by painting the manager as the quintessential "good guy" and the client as the stereotypical "bad guy".

However, in the eyes of a skillfully trained investigator the progress note reads quite differently.

We are trained to identify that which is NOT being said or purposely omitted.
We also seek motives. In Leah's progress note several issues stand out.

1. The program manager, did not write in first person. She writes "Client and counselor met in regards to his grievance." Leah is the counselor in question. Why was that distinction omitted?

2. Every person in attendance was not identified. Another person was present. Why did she omit her?

3. This "progress note" would have us believe that this articulate man that I've come to know, who is highly opinionated, did not have anything to say when asked 3 very important questions. The program manager writes:
 "Counselor asked client why he did not tell this to the nurse and she could see about a dose adjustment. Client [failed] to answer this question. Client just kept stating that counselor has placed him on a taper and counselor is denying him his dose."  
That statement is unequivocally false and deliberately misleading.  Carey did have a very specific answer to her question. He told Leah that it was known throughout the treatment center and surrounding community agencies who relied on its services that all operations incumbent on the doctor's care were suspended during his sickness. New clients were not being accepted and individuals in Leah's methadone program could not expect any changes in their prescriptions during that period.

Carey said he continued telling Leah that it was known throughout the agency that clients should not even expect an increase in their take-home allotment while the doctor's status was unclear. Clients waited months for adjustments to their prescriptions. Carey also stated it would be unreasonable to believe he would be an exception to the rule. Additionally, it was not customary in that facility, with that particular nurse to have an in-depth conversation concerning ones medical problems. Everyone viewed the nurse, who generally wear street clothing, as if she was sort of a pharmacist who fills a prescription. 

The above dialog and more is missing from the so called "progress notes".  Why? Why did Leah purposely lie and fail to include important details?

 Leah continues writing:
"Client did not understand this because he continued to say that is(sp) was counselor who was doing this and that he is going to sue counselor and the whole Unity Point organization to get counselor fired. Client asked counselor what she would do if her doctor said she could no longer have her medication. Counselor told client that she would find a new doctor.
Carey said her assessment is total fiction.

 My critical review of Leah's written chain of events is that she is attempting to spin four narratives. 1) Carey is not very bright. 2) Leah has done absolutely nothing wrong by allowing Carey to lapse into a withdrawal that nearly killed him 3) Leah is the victim. 4) Carey is the bad guy who you should not trust. And remember, in this court there is not a single voice to argue against Leah's narrative. However, today,  Carey's differing interpretation of the same chain of events is in my possession. The following is his assessment of that day. 
After waiting nearly 3 weeks for Leah to respond to my grievance, that day had finally arrived. After calling her several times and writing her over 7 times, some by certified mail, I wondered why she was stonewalling me? I became skeptical and leery of Leah because of her avoiding me and other unflattering things I heard about her from other clients and her own staff. So prior to our meeting I called to ask if I could bring along someone as a support and witness. She denied my request. Yet, when I arrived for our  meeting, there was another person in the room. It was the nurse. I asked Leah why she was there. Leah said she was the person who gave out the medication so she thought she should be here to explain to me how the system works. Having worked in Quality Control at the Central Base Personnel Office (CBPO) while in The United States Air Force, my worst fear came alive, I had walked into a trap.

While working specifically in Unfavorable Information Files, a file I maintained on everyone on the base who committed a violation of military code or broke the law off the base, as part of my duty, I'd seen hundreds of documents describing scams, fraud, rape, child abuse and garden variety mischief. I'd also seen how airmen were setup by senior personnel in situations similar to the one I found myself. A devious senior official or anyone who wanted to rig a hearing or court proceeding would place a subordinate in a room as a witness while another airmen, who was being "written up" gave his testimony. When it was all said and done the subordinate (the plant) later agreed to anything and everything the senior official coerced him to agree with. Having witnessed that scenario while maintaining my files and in person, I did not believe it was wise to continue this meeting. I disagreed with Leah's reasoning for having the nurse there and asked her to leave. I told Leah that there is nothing in my grievance that speaks about her and she did not have a "need to know" my personal business. The nursed looked at Leah as if asking her permission to leave. Leah nodded her head in agreement. The nurse left and never came back. But later, after our meeting ended, the nurse plays another part in this event. Anyway, upon entering into our discussion I asked Leah why she waited so long to address my grievance. She rambled on about some meetings she had to attend and started blaming others for her missteps. I said she should be ashamed of herself for letting me damn near die in withdrawal before someone intervened and she didn't even offer an apology. She said it wasn't her fault it was the doctor's doing and I apologize for him not showing up. I asked her, so it was the doctor that intervened and stopped my withdrawal? She said, not really, I called the doctor. I said so let me get this straight... throughout the entire time that I was sick as a dog, blood pressure off the chart, 220 over 115, bowels moving uncontrollably, weak and barely able to walk, you could have called and stopped it at any time, is that right? With a smog and arrogant voice she said I did call and stopped it, didn't I, what do you want. She continues with a load of rhetoric about their procedures and it wasn't her fault.  She didn't want to admit that not only did she let me go into withdrawal for 7 days when she could have stopped it, but she gave the initial order to staff to start my withdrawal on the first day (day 1) of the 7. So she cannot say she wasn't aware of the fact of my impending withdrawal. She started it, she knew it was happening and she failed to stop it. I even wrote her 2 letters and called her several times begging her and pleading with her and informing her of my impending doom. I wrote and called telling her to be aware that if she does not step up to stop my withdrawal, it was going to happen very soon. People can die of withdrawal from methadone. And to this day she still feigns ignorance to those details and her transgressions. Speaking of the nurse, when my meeting with Leah was coming to an end, I asked Leah did she really believe that the nurse does anything other than dispense the methadone, something like a pharmacist? I asked because Leah had implied that this nurse does all the things that nurses in major hospitals are required to do. I replied I beg to differ. On the way out we crossed paths with the nurse. Leah jumped into action giving a (I assumed) prearranged question for the nurse. After Leah asked her the question the nurse seemed a little puzzled, then she responded, "No, that's not the way it goes". I broke out in loud laughter because the nurse had just blown the question by failing to give Leah's pre-orchestrated answer. You should have seen the looks on their faces as they scrambled to put the cat back in the bag, so to speak.
The beat goes on. Leah writes
"Client did not understand this because he continued to say that is(sp) was counselor who was doing this and that he is going to sue counselor and the whole Unity Point organization to get counselor fired. Client asked counselor what she would do if her doctor said she could no longer have her medication. Counselor told client that she would find a new doctor.

Please excuse my french but that's BS, complete poppycock. I did not tell Leah I was going to sue her to get her fired. That makes no sense at all. Who sues to get someone fired? I actually said that Leah is binding my hands by not giving me the exact reason I was being put on an administrative Withdrawal and my take-home privileges taken away. It was difficult continuing my grievance because I didn't have the specifics of what I was alleged to have done wrong. I said I needed that information to continue my grievance. I also needed the list of her chain of command as outlined in the grievance procedure. How was I going to protest an alleged violation when the violation is not known? I said I also needed the names and addresses of the people listed in the grievance procedure (who are they, what's their title and where can they be found). The grievance procedure states:

"If after discussion with the manager, the client grievance is still unresolved, the client may continue to pursue the grievance. At the point the grievance and attempts to resolve it shall be clearly stated in writing, as well as the relief requested. Until the grievance is resolved the client may continue to pursue the grievance first with the supervising Director, then the President and finally the Program Committee of the Board of Directors. The CENTER will have (5) working days to make  a decision at each level that the grievance is pursued. The decision will be presented to the client in writing."

After asking Leah several times

(by certified mail and by phone) to comply with the grievance procedure guidelines, I finally told her that she was denying me due process by stonewalling me. I said I was not going to stop because I wanted to stay in recovery, I was not mandated to be there. I finally said even if I have to go to court to have someone hear my case, I will borrow and beg for enough money to retain a lawyer to do just that. As you can see Leah flipped my words around to make it appear as if I threatened to sue her, which is preposterous. I would not trade my recovery for her job. That makes absolutely no sense to me.  More importantly, a person who leaves a methadone treatment program by way of an Administrative Withdrawal, statistic point out that he/she will die within three years. I am in no hurry to be a statistic on that list. Before I left I asked Leah one more time for the requested items, i.e., chain of command, the written reply to my grievance, etc. BTW, CADS statistics are high in the area of those given Administrative Withdrawal Orders and subsequently died within 3 years. Estimates are 10-20 people were unfavorably discharged and subsequently died within 3 years

The actual hand written note Leah gave to the client. 
She put out her hand in a gesture that implied that I should stop. She then reached for a sticky pad and  wrote the name Mary Petersen on it. She then said "Here, take it, that's all you need. We are done here."  I was flabbergasted but I took the note (above) and opened the door.

My Uncle begged Leah to not take him off his medicine. He told me she wasn't trying to work with him. He went down to Kansas City and died 2 months after getting there.I called the helpline and left a message. I miss my uncle.

This does not surprise me.When Karri was the program manager she ran a group called The OBGs. It stood for old black guys. Karri sat in with them and they would discuss their weekly events and laugh like they were having fun. When Leah took over the clinic and Karri went to a private methadone clinic the group slowly disbanded. Most of its members have died. Leah did not want to have anything to do with that group.One of its members was administratively discharged about 3 months ago.Willie was pushed out and now signed on in davenport. They all had difficulties with Leah.

I've just received notice that there seems to be an error in one of the comments. It's the comment referencing the program manager who was there before Leah. Her name is "Karra" with an 'a', not Karri with an 'I'. It may seem like small potatoes but I believe, no check that, I know the director Karra, is proud of her accomplishments with that group. So it's only fair that we get it straight and give her a bow... my hat is tipped in her direction.

They treat us like prisoners not individuals with a severe mental illness. I think its all about money. The care of the clients is an after thought. CADS was losing money. Now that they have been taken over by Robert Young their services have declined. So they really do not care what Leah does as long as she can find ways to move clients in and out to generate funding. Along with those scraps of money they can request federal grants under the name of "treatment". Its all about money. Nobody advocates for the lowly clients, they are just pawns. Even if you do not play chess, you know pawns have little importance in the game and are easily disposable.

I was one of the first 1000 readers after I saw it on someones facebook page... but my little city wasn't listed. its one of those towns that everyone knows every family in town and most of us live  apart from each other. But damit, we dont want to be known as that town without a name. But I do hope that this works out for the veteran. It seems like the manager is running that clinic like its her own castle and she doesnt have to follow any rules. You cant run any business without rules or someone making sure she follows the companies regulations, policies and rules. The whole clinic needs a sit down. you know, everyone needs to be brougt up to date. Then no one can say they did not know this or that. Right now its all he said she said the manager said. That is absolutely no way to run a business. Someone could get sued on dumb flaky shit like that. like when the manager almost let this guy die. that was fucked up.

Hey you guys have you checked out davenports program. They don't dangle the methadone over your head lke a ton of bricks will fall on it if you do not brown nose leah. I have heard that the nurse and leah discuss how much traffic they get and how they can help each others problems. Like I will scratch your back if u stratch mine. The one nurse is lazy so they dont want to spend time filling take home bottles. But the more people that they can keep in the program the more it looks like they are needed.Thats called job security and money honey

You must be kidding, right? One of the dangers of having a pencil pusher over a recovery program is that they are not in recovery and have never been in recovery. Needless to say, Leah has never experienced the pain of withdrawal. She may be book smart but that kind of pain is indescribable. If she ever went through a cold turkey withdrawal she would not be as cavalier as she appears to have been about Carey's fate, as he called it, impending doom.

Seriously, one of the few times a person, especially an addicted person, will share their last piece of their drugs is when someone is in withdrawal or is feeling horribly ill because they are going into withdrawal. That's a fact. Only a person who has never been there would deny someone their medicine to take their sick off.

When this was going around I instantly became frightened. One time another client was passing around a petition or grievance she wanted people to read and sign. But the door monitor Shari said Leah said we couldn't do something like that. You know, we were not allowed to get together and file some kind of grievance about how we were being treated. Everybody has a story to tell about Leah and Shari and that one nurse but Shari threatened them with some kind of discipline if they didn't stop passing around the paper.I think it was just another made up rule to keep the prisoners in line.

Carey was the main speaker but he used a client and the counselor in his examples and during the question and answer period. I went looking for him one day because I got involved with my pain meds and other illegal drugs. I found him at a "meeting" that he was speaking at. I felt so embarrassed and ashamed by my fall that I didn't have the nerve to introduce myself to ask him a few questions about recovery. I remember how well spoken he was and his sincerity and honesty. When I saw this problem I knew something had to be wrong. Oh, I just saw that other client at CADS the other day. The counselor no longer works there. One of my other favorite counselors said he is leaving very soon. I wonder if Leah has anything to do with all the counselors leaving? That may not be a fact but many are leaving and many have already gone.

Hello everyone, I am the original author of this blog. I have not penned a post at this spot in over 6 years. However, recently I allowed an outside advocate to voice their concerns in support of a grievance I am presently going through.

Some of the posts and comments I do not agree with, and others I do not condone whatsoever. But this morning one of the staff members at the center in question was very rude to me and harassed me while I was taking care of my business. I asked her for a copy of something that was posted on a wall. In a smart-ass tone she said "you will have to wait for a counselor to get "YOU" a copy. I then pointed to a note on the same wall that said "all copies must be acquired by a "STAFF MEMBER" -- do not take them down". The clerk then said "I don't care what that says, it's wrong and if you disagree with me then write about it". She apparently was referring to this blog in which some have said unflattering things about her and the way she treats others. I ignored her ignorant attitude but I still was required to wait over an hour before a counselor came in to work to provide me with a few copies. I am so filled up with this woman's unprofessional attitude and petty quarrelsome ways. I am patiently waiting until the day my claim comes to rest. This woman is a disservice to anyone who's trying to find a better way to live.

I was at the clinic shortly after you left Carey,and she was taking signs off the wall. As I was leaving, I spoke to her, and she went off on me saying that people are nice to her,all saying good morning to her face and then want to go down the street and talk shit about her and write about her in this blog. I knew she was talking about me because of something she said, but I refrained from saying what I really wanted to say and I just left! What I don't understand is,why does she even care what we think? I was raised to treat people with respect and taught that even though I don't like or care for someone, to still treat that person with respect, especially if I'm in a place of business. I am not dumb enough to go into a place of business and talk all crazy to an employee because I know exactly what will happen, but now that I know she no longer wants me to be respectful, I will just not speak, and hopefully that solves the problem she has with me, and one more thing, this is my first time writing anything on this blog, but as for talking shit, yeah, I sure have, and I have no problem admitting that, but she has no room to bring up talking shit when she sits in staffing and talks shit about us and then smiles in our face too

*LOL* Slow your roll pilgrim, I'm not going to air your dirty laundry out here in the open. Although I doubt if anyone who could actually help your situation is reading this blog, I just don't think it's wise to argue your case right here. Check that, we know your girl who now appears to be your nemesis is reading this b/c she harassed me about it Saturday morning but I've been told that if you want change in an organization, you don't start with the stock boy, you go to those who can actually facilitate change, like the owner or his next in line. Obviously I'm referring to a chain of command. Your girl is at the bottom of that chain.

Speaking of change, that's what I was hoping we could discuss. You know, in recovery it's all about change. You and I know for a fact that if we don't change "the things" we have done in the past, we'll receive the same outcomes of the past... you know the tune, we will get--> jails, institutions and death. That's where we're all headed if we don't make serious changes in our lives. That's why I love people in recovery who have accepted the fact that they must "change". People who are not in recovery (like some of our so-called leaders or staff members) they do not believe they have to change a damn thing. Whatever they're doing is working for them, they think, so why change? Do you see and understand what I'm saying? They will consistently run that place like a mom and pop shop with ambiguous rules because they can, and it's working for them. They have a nice paying job, good credit and the world is their oyster, so why change? On the flip side, we know we must change. Well, I'll speak for myself. I KNOW I've had to make major changes in my life, especially in the way I process everything. I've adapted the ideology that every action starts with a thought. In layman's terms that thought is generated by something we may have seen or heard. Then we process that thought (in our minds) and react to it. That reaction or "action" is what the world sees. But here's the joy about this recovery thing. We, you and I, have complete control of how we react. Get it? We have control over how we react to any and everything that comes our way. For instance, if a fool does or says something stupid to you or about you, you can react by being just as ignorant and stupid as them, or you/we can react in a totally different way.

Now Miss Unknown we are talking about the joys of recovery. You can let me know if you get it, or if I'm boring you to death *lol*. If I was a gambling man I'd bet that you understand exactly what I'm saying. As I said earlier, be careful what you ask for because going to school (recovery school) is not for everyone because it can be uncomfortable when you accept the fact that you have to "change." Change is painful, it's uncomfortable, it hurts, but it soooooo satisfying on the other side.

After reading his grievance this issue became very clear. I read all the post too. Without a doubt this client was not treated fairly. Its clear that the manager did not think anyone would ever see or hear his side. She probably even tricked her bosses by only telling them what she wanted them to know. I wonder if her bosses ever read his grievance? If they did I wonder why they did not correct her? The manager in the first place could have told the client that she made a mistake and then give the client back his priviledges but maybe she wasnt that kind of person who can admit her misstakes. maybe her power went to her head as my mother would say. She got so drunk on power that she just avoided all rules and made up her own. Thats what I got from that kangaroo court thing. As long as nobody heard his side of the story she could do whatever she wanted to do. I wonder what she has against this guy? He seems like a smart guy. I hope that withdrawal didnt hurt him. Peace.

I had DWI and I had to go to CADS as part of my sentence. I never went in the back rooms but i heard about the died blonde with short hair. I thought she was the manager. I saw her bossing the clients like she was over them. When I found out she was only the door monitor I couldn't believe it because she acted like she was running the place. I am glad I completed the program and I never saw that other woman Leah.

I do not understand what has taken place? Is this an ongoing grievance between an employee and an employer? It reads as if a patient has been denied some type of medical care. If that is true, from what I have read the program manager could have responded to the patient and the case would be closed. But from what I read the manager was stubborn or afraid to let his complaint move forward. What the hell is she hiding? From what I've read she does not appear to be management quality. I could not trust her on my team. Why didnt she simply reply to the grievance? I wish I was a fly on her wall. she must have a bevy of excuses... or Big Kahunas :-(

I have read this and I am also a client and although I agree with some of it, I also no that theres more to the story! I do not think he is telling the whole truth! While some of the clinics actions are inexcusable I do not think the clinic is such a horror story as it has been described!! I also really like shari a mb d think she just doesn't put up with peoples bs! When your not being sneaky and doing what your suppose to, she is very pleasant and likeable!! I think others have been not doing what their suppose to and that's why she is coming down on them! Just abide the rules and keep your nose clean! Easy!

I think his case is easy to prove or disprove. Has she or has she not returned his grievance? Did she let him lapse into a withdrawal that she could have stopped, That is very cruel and sick if it is the truth. Nothing he could have don deserves that slow death march. Have you ever tried to withdraw from methadone? From what I heard only a small few ever make it. Facts, nothing but the facts. That is easy to solve. look up in the nurse's log and see if he had doses for 7 days. Facts do not tell lies but it appears the clinic has told alot of them. And this shari is a pleasant person if everybody is keeping their nose clean? Her job of being a professional should not depend on the client's behavior. She should lead by example but your making excuses and rationalizing her poor behavior. Facts please. Your defense of them hurt them more than helped. You must support your comment with facts not assumptions.Nobody deserves the treatment this guy got no matter what rule he may have missed. No person deserves to die for breaking a rule. That is evil BS. Easy! Leah? Shari? Is that you? Shame on you 2. You guys should thank God this client didn't die. and ask god to forgive you.

Trust? after reading all of these post I don't know who to trust. I cant trust a word our politicians say. I sure can't trust our lying president. Hes trying to keep us safe but with him the price is too high. Last night on the news I saw the boy scouts are under fire for molesting young boys.. Now we have people taking advantage of people who are trying to get help for their drinking problem.
wow I once smoked a blunt but I didn't like it. I will pray for this guy and that counselor to get help.

I saw my fther go through withdrawal several times. I dont think it was this methadone b/c he got his stuff from chicgo. i thought he was going to die every time he didn't have that stuff. i hated that he was doing it but i felt so sorry for him every time I saw him like that. i heard him in the bathroom crying and moaning. oue mother tried to help him with drinks nd fruit and it help him a little. he did goto a treatent center but he didn't last. I feel so sorry for those people. Butt this lady at this place should be forced to quit her job if she is doing all this horrible stuff.I hope they catch her. peace

but you would never expect something like this to happen in a treatment center. maybe they are underpaid so they cant find qualified people.
do they work for the government.
those people make nice money. I kind of feel sorry for this manager because she must be sick herself. I can't see any other reason that she would treat people so mean.but I called that helpline.

WOW OMG, ihpe im not too late for this party.Was she evr disciplined. I know one thing for sure this client was well trained by the military. I cant beliv he kept the smallest of small things with him. he even used his phone to take pictures of proof that he reached out to her. OMG if shes lying she better throw herself on the mercy of the court. he sia dhe had seen stuff like this in the air force so he probably didnt trust her. Really how could you trust someone who stood by and watch you suffer and die. Who does that. what manual is she working from? Let see... under regulation 54-72 it says dont laugh at the client but do not resecicate or help them if it appears they are dying from a withdrawal. Whose manual says that? But she looks like shes very cunning. Ted Bundy was cunning. So was that guy who buried young boys under his house. secreatly mean spirit people are very smart some time. I would not trade places with her or her boss. They are in a pickle

I've looked for drugs in the projects and in far away alleys and nasty hotels but I would think twice before venturing to that back door area to get help. DAMN! The cost they must pay for their recovery cannot be put in words. Good Luck and my God be with all of you.

 Leah covers her tracks by using the staff member without them knowing that she's throwing them under the bus. For instance a staff counselor was apparently told to take care of something that Leah appositely could not get to. However, little did the counselor know that Leah was simply trying to give the impression that she had nothing to do with the action or discipline that she asked the counselor to do in her "absence".  On record it appears that the counselor wacked the client, not Leah. But everyone knows Leah runs that clinic with no checks and balances. Clients are scared of her because if she says their medicine will no longer be given to them, thats exactly what will happen. That's frightening to those who depend on that medication on a daily bases. Look at what happened to Carey. He's still trying to get his take homes even though the new doctor said there was no divergence on his part and thus Leah's administrative discharge/withdrawal was kicked out. Leah still refuses to abide by the doctors ruling. What's wrong with that woman. Watch, even though everyone knows it's her doing but she'll say the "doctor" took your take-homes or the "doctor" directed the order. NO... Leah orders others to do her dirty deeds, then she washes her hands and says "who, not me, the doctor did it". I am calling B.S. on that. Check the books! But do they even take minutes/notes in their staff meetings? Every business has someone responsible to write down the ongoing affairs at business meetings don't they. I remember doing that at our girl scout meetings. I loved reading the minutes. I remember it kept people from lying about what someone said, or didn't do or didn't say.But of course a cruel person would not leave behind something that would spoil the cover-up, would they?

This makes me sick, as a client of Cads, I am all to familiar with the injustices that have gone on there and are still going on there, that place does not treat everyone as an equal and it's as if they are trying to make people fail, like they are making it hard for people to succeed, that place has totally gone downhill ever since the new med watch lady with the short blonde hair started, what's her name? She and the nurse are shit starter's bad!!!
